Ahmed Sakr obtained his M.D. degree from Tanta University. He is mainly interested in treatment-resistant depression. Ahmed's laboratory focuses are on mechanics and treatment of TRD. The majority of this work uses interventional treatments like prefrontal cortical stimulation and vagal nerve stimulation. A second focus has become testing the feasibility of using various functional MRI techniques (precision functional mapping) in TRD patients. As a part of Ziad Nahas's Interventional Psychiatry lab, he is exploring ways to better develop individualized interventional treatments for TRD patients to help guide future therapeutics.
